Our Impact

Schenectady ARC is committed to creating and fostering partnerships to create the power for people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities to live, learn, work and play as fulfilled members of our community. We greatly appreciate our community partners who support our mission and vision. In addition to these partnerships, there are many ways that we, as an agency, impact our greater Schenectady community.

Community Workforce Impact:

  • We support 125 people with disabilities through our Employment Services
  • We support 25 local businesses with employees through our Employment Services
  • We employ over 550 people throughout our programs and services within Schenectady county

Impact on local businesses we support through purchases of goods and services:

  • $2.3 million total amount purchased by Schenectady ARC in 2019

Additional Community Impact:

  • Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) to the city of Schenectady in support of government services
  • Volunteer hours devoted by our individuals and staff to other non-profits throughout the Schenectady Community
  • Payment of property taxes for all agency facilities and twenty-one residential homes located in Schenectady county
  • Support of SUNY Schenectady enrollment via our College Success Program and Direct Support Professional Certificate Program collaboration
  • Utilization of Telemedicine to relieve the burden on the local healthcare system through unnecessary ER visit and hospital admissions
  • Horticulture Program partners with community businesses and non-profits to beautify the community (planting at the Metroplex plot near Proctors, sales of plants to Metroplex for Stratton Plaza, fundraisers with local Rotaries, provides arrangements and centerpieces for various events)
  • Programs including the College Success Program and SenseAble Science have supported the integration of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder into the community
