Advocacy at ARC
Schenectady ARC’s Self Advocacy Group

In existence since October 2000, the group is dedicated to advocating for their rights and is very involved with getting their message out to other consumers. They make presentations to consumers who are interested in hearing more about self advocacy and train them on what their rights are. As members they are also given training on Self Advocacy and Self Determination through workshops as well as Regional and National Self Advocacy Conferences. In addition, they are involved in Schenectady ARC’s staff training program, helping staff to better understand how consumers want to be treated.
