Schenectady ARC offers several services designed to assist young adults in preparing for the transition from school services to adult services. We work with special education administrators and families to develop creative options for students. The Student Work Experience Program, (SWEP), works with special needs students from districts throughout the Capital region to provide them the opportunity to gain hands-on employment experience while learning appropriate work, social and job seeking skills that will enable them to obtain and maintain employment.
Students explore different avenues of employment through internships, receive training from job coaches and are transported to and from community-based businesses by the participating high school. Students may also access Transitional Day Habilitation services. These services focus on building students independence in daily living skills, work skills, communication and socialization. Transportation for these services is also provided by the participating school district. Students are able to get a head start in building relationships with peers and the agency, easing the transition from school services to adult services. |
